A very soggy dig day has seen the latest length of trail at Gisburn fully open. A cracking turnout of old and new volunteers stuck two fingers up to the weather to finish surfacing the new section and putting in the signage. The new section is approximately half a kilometre in length and bypasses around a mile of terrible uphill fireroad.
The new section of trail is near the start of the bottom loop after the causeway over the reservoir. As you come out onto Eggberry Road you'll see new signage pointing off to the left. The route it follows was actually part of the old N.A.M.B.s course from the late 90s, in fact there are still trail markers nailed to a tree halfway up. The bypassed section can be seen in blue on the map whilst the new route of the 8 is shown in red.
The trail building has taken nearly six months to the day from ground being broken to getting the final sign in place (actually six months and two days). All in all a cracking achievement.
