PMBA Needs Your Support

Published on: Aug 10 2018 by Sam Hopley

PMBA needs your support. It's been one of our goals to become the voice of mountain bikers in the Pennine area, but to keep this going we need your support. We need to know what's important to you, where you want trails to be, what problems you're having on your local trails and how you want mountain biking to be better in your area.

We need more people to get actively involved with:

Dig Days: Volunteers are the key to trail maintenance and development. You don't need to be an experience trail builder to help out. There's plenty of jobs from making coffee to pushing wheelbarrows and everything inbetween. Gisburn Forest and Healey Nab hold regular dig days. Keep an eye on their Facebook pages or get in touch to find out more. Lee Quarry and Hurstwood could also do with more dig days, but we need some volunteer leaders to help out.

PMBA Meetings: We hold regular meetings, every 6-8 weeks. These are usually held on a Tuesday evening, 7pm at the Hapton Inn, Accrington. Anyone is welcome to come along. The meetings are a great place to voice concerns, offer help and make suggestions. If you don't have any concerns of your own, your input could offer a solution to someone else's concerns. The meetings are also where we decide on how to spend our money, whether this is on training, tools or providing information to riders. Keep an eye on our Facebook Group for dates on our next meeting.

PMBA Member: Ok, so you just want to go and ride your bike. So why not join the PMBA. Memberships are only £5 a year, about the cost of a good innertube. Remember the PMBA is made up of volunteers, so money from memberships goes back into mountain biking, it could be spent on new tools or providing first aid training to our volunteers. The more members we have the bigger the voice we have. If we can get more support, then we could have a range of member benefits too, such as special discount rates with selected retailers, events and bike parks.

Signage: Are you a business owner in the Pennines area? We are looking for support from local business to display one of our PMBA boards (like the one below). This will help create much needed awareness of the PMBA, boost memberships and increase volunteer help.

Donations: Would you like to make a donation to the PMBA? Maybe you want your donation to be used at a particular trail centre that we are involved with, or maybe you could sponsor a Dig Day by providing the funds for a coffee and snacks for the volunteers.

If you'd like more information or have any questions on how you could help then send us an email: contactus@pmba.org.uk
